Most AI gives you a head start—drafting text, suggesting ideas, answering questions. But finishing a task often means extra steps like updating a tracker, sharing the doc, and making sure everything stays in sync.

With Notion AI, you get a personal Agent that not only helps, but does the work for you. From quick tasks to complex, multi-step workflows, it handles it all. You can ask your Agent to edit pages, update databases, and even analyze information across your tools and the web.

In this guide, you’ll learn how to use your agent to:

  • Build, query, and edit databases

  • Create and edit multiple pages across your workspace

  • Search and analyze information across your connected tools

  • Personalize how it works for you

Your Agent can complete multi-step tasks end-to-end. Just share your goals, and it'll get to work. Like a Notion super user, your Agent know how to work with most of Notion's building blocks. You can unlock your Agent with any plan that includes Notion AI.

To get started, click the circular face icon in the bottom-right corner of your workspace, or open the Notion AI tab in the left sidebar.

Your Agent can build or edit databases in seconds. Just describe what you need, and it will set up the right properties, relations, charts, and views—ready to use right away. Here are a few ways you might get started:

  • Build a new database — Ask Agent: “Create a marketing campaign database with tasks for 3 blog posts, 15 social posts, and 2 emails for our upcoming fall launches. Include columns for owner, due date, and status. Add timeline and board views. For each task page, insert a brief content outline with key talking points."

  • Edit properties and views in your database — Ask Agent to: “Create a personalized view of all tasks assigned to me, then mark all September tasks as done.”

Remember, the more specific you are, the better your results. Keep refining by telling your Agent what to change or add. It'll confirm any page deletions if you want to remove something.

Limitations for Notion AI Agent

Ingest and analyze PDFs

PDFs are everywhere, but extracting useful information usually means tedious scanning and copy-pasting. Your Agent can turns static files into structured content:

  • Track contract details — Upload a vendor contract PDF and ask your Agent: “Turn this contract into a tracker with key dates, deliverables, and tasks. Include due dates, owners, clause citations, payment terms, and deadline alerts.” Your Agent will read the contract and organize everything into a structured format.

  • Organize research insights — When you have multiple reports, tell your Agent: "Go through these user research PDFs and create a summary with the main findings, user quotes, and what we should do next, grouped by product area."

Two ways your Agent can work with PDFs

One of the most powerful ways to use Agents is for content creation and editing. Instead of starting from scratch or manually updating information, your Agent can handle content development and targeted updates. Here’s what it can do:

  • Create project documentation —To turn meeting notes or transcripts into actionable project documents, you might say: "Based on the recent Project Sandstorm brainstorm, create a project kick-off document with goals, team roles, and a timeline overview."

  • Manage your knowledge base — When your company policy changes, tell your Agent: "We're giving everyone 2 extra personal days, plus a volunteer day and birthday day off each year. Can you find our vacation policy page and add the new benefits?" Your Agent will find the relevant pages, make the updates, and keep your tone and page formatting consistent.

Information lives everywhere—Slack conversations, support tickets, Google Drive files, project databases. Your Agent can search across all your connected tools to pull everything together. Here are a few ways to get started:

  • Create comprehensive feedback reports — Ask your Agent: "Create a customer feedback report using Slack discussions from #customer-feedback and recent web reviews. Highlight the top three issues and suggest solutions." Your Agent scans both internal conversations and public sources, uncovers recurring themes, and delivers a clear report with actionable recommendations.

  • Research your competition — Ask your Agent: "Review case studies and pitch decks in the Google Drive folder for Enterprise Sales, research competitors’ product bundles and pricing from the web, and create a sales playbook that highlights our differentiators and suggested talk tracks." Your Agent pulls from internal assets and external market insights, then compiles everything into a structured playbook your sales team can use right away.

Getting started with AI connectors

Your Agent adapts to how you work and communicate, becoming a personalized teammate that feels like an extension of you. You can customize their personality, appearance, and communication style to match your preferences.

To get started, hover over the Notion AI face until you see Personalize, then click to edit. From there, you can:

  • Give it personality — Pick a name and an accessory that match your style.

  • Set communication preferences — Create an instructions page to teach your Agent your

tone, workflows, and quirks. Start fresh or use a template.

I'm not sure what to include in my Agent profile

  • Let it learn — Your Agent picks things up as you chat. Add details like “Sarah is my manager” or “we focus on product launches” so it can tailor responses. Over time, it remembers your style and workflows.

With Agents, you can turn ideas into finished systems through simple conversations. You don't even need technical knowledge—just describe your goals and watch your Agent bring them to life.
