ZeroEntropy is joining Notion

Sarah Sachs

Today we’re announcing that we’ve acquired ZeroEntropy. In less than two years, they have developed high-efficiency training and inference for task-specific models with their own custom kernels, inference stack, and model specialization recipes. Their entire team will be joining Notion, and ZeroEntropy founder and CEO Ghita Houir Alami will lead our newly formed Model Research team.

We first got to know Ghita, her cofounder and CTO Nicholas Pipitone, and the crew as customers of ZeroEntropy. This tiny team’s reranker made our unified search up to 30% faster, reduced latency on the reranking step by 85%, all while maintaining constant answer quality and lowering our inference cost—replacing offerings from larger and better-funded competitors.

These and other outsized results make sense given the team’s backgrounds, which include AI research, quantitative finance, and physics. They’ve also trained state-of the art models such as zembed-1 and zerank-2 and published research like the zELO method.

ZeroEntropy also shares Notion's mission to ensure that no business, no matter how small, gets left behind in the age of AI. The impressive capabilities from the frontier labs have still improved only a fraction of the work most businesses and people do every day. Customers need AI products that aren't just powerful, but also fast, affordable, and built for the specific work people do.

With the ZeroEntropy team at Notion, we can move faster towards our goals of bringing genuinely useful AI to businesses of every size, not just the few who can afford to spend millions of dollars a month on tokens.

Welcome to the team, ZeroEntropy!
