This template contains ten standard operating procedures (SOPs) for legal assistants. The first SOP focuses on managing client case files, emphasizing organization, accuracy, and confidentiality. It details steps for receiving and organizing new files, maintaining their accuracy, managing access, tracking deadlines and correspondence, updating and closing files, and conducting periodic audits.
The second SOP outlines the process for drafting legal correspondence, covering understanding the correspondence's purpose, selecting the appropriate format, drafting the content, reviewing for accuracy, sending and storing copies, and following up on responses.
The third SOP details the scheduling and management of court dates, including recording dates, using a centralized legal calendar, coordinating with clients and witnesses, preparing court documents in advance, confirming appointments, and following up after court dates.
The fourth SOP focuses on legal research and case law retrieval, including understanding research objectives, accessing legal research platforms, conducting case law and statutory research, summarizing findings, providing research to attorneys, and storing research materials.
Finally, the fifth SOP explains managing attorney calendars and deadlines, including setting up and maintaining calendars, tracking deadlines, scheduling appointments, managing last-minute changes, syncing and backing up calendar information, and notifying attorneys and clients of key dates. The remaining SOPs continue in this manner, detailing procedures for filing court documents, handling client intake, billing and timekeeping, ensuring confidentiality, and preparing evidence and exhibits.
